FreeUP Mobile Debuts New Plans Ahead of Black Friday

Updated

Article Summary

  • FreeUP has debuted two new plans
  • One of FreeUP's new plans includes 500 minutes of talk and text and 100MB of data each month for free
  • FreeUP allows subscribers to lower their monthly bills via a rewards system
  • FreeUP runs on AT&T's excellent network

FreeUP Mobile launched service last spring with an intriguing proposition: subscribers could lower their monthly cell phone by performing tasks like filling out online surveys, downloading mobile apps, watching videos and buying from participating online retailers. The idea would have no doubt failed to resonate were it not for the FreeUP's solid cell coverage aboard "America's top GSM network," i.e. AT&T.

The company launched the second version of its service in July, and has slightly revamped its offerings again with the debut of some new plans.

FreeUP's New Plans

FreeUP has added a totally free cell phone plan to its quiver. The plan includes a monthly allotment of 500 minutes or 500 texts, along with 100MB of data. It's a pretty modest plan, but again, it costs nothing.

FreeUP has also added a $60 plan that features unlimited talk and text and 12GB of 4GLTE data per month (after that you can still access data but slowed to 2G speeds, unlimited). It also includes calling to over 150 countries (including Mexico and Canada) and access to 4 million plus WiFi hotspots.

How FreeUP's New Plans Compare

There are a smattering of "freemium" MVNOs on the market, but few that offer full-strength cell service on a great network like AT&T—many of FreeUP's competitors feature less reliable WiFi or VoIP style calling and texting. That makes FreeUP's new starter plan easy to recommend.

FreeUP's new $60 plan is more difficult to recommend since there is a good selection of cell phone plans that offer fully unlimited data for $60 or less (again, FreeUP's plan tops out at 12GB/month of full speed data).
