Turn off your data

Before we explain how to turn off data, we need to ask the bigger question of why

Why would anyone spend so much money on a nice smartphone or pay for a set amount of data each month and then want to turn off data?

Here's why: contrary to popular belief, data is not unlimited. Even if you purchase an unlimited plan, when you reach the carrier's data cap, you will experience data de-prioritization during peak or congested times.

If you're someone who constantly streams and you actually do feel the burn of the slow download / buffering that is a result of data de-prioritization, you need to turn off your data.

Why do we need to turn off data?

We turn off data to save data. When we sign up for a data plan with our cell phone carrier, we agree to pay for a set amount of data each month (2GB, 5GB, 10GB, etc.) and we are "capped" at that amount of data usage. In order to truly understand what we are using vs what we are signing up to pay for, check out your own data usage when you go to settings in your device:

If you find that you are going too close to the data cap, you can turn off cellular data and use WiFi instead. Do this whenever you can hop on a safe WiFi network and you reduce using your data.
