Bring Your Own iPhone
There are a range of carriers that operate on the T-Mobile or AT&T GSM networks, giving you plenty of choices for switching. However, you cant switch to Sprint or Verizon as they run on different technology.
iPhone models 4, 4s and 5 from AT&T and T-Mobile are only compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile's GSM network.
iPhone models 5c, 5s, 6, 6+, 6s, 6s+ & SE were designed to support all major network bands and are compatible with all major network providers. No matter GSM or CDMA, Sprint, or Verizon, these iPhone models will work on any carrier. Just make sure the devices are paid for in full and properly unlocked.
Select your AT&T or T-Mobile iPhone model, and we'll show you the compatible carriers that you can switch to:
Sprint | Bring Your Own iPhone
Sprint uses CDMA network technology, this is not compatible with AT&T or T-Mobile (GSM). Sprint's CDMA network isn’t compatible with Verizon's CDMA network, in general phones from these networks are only compatible with their own network, meaning switching options can be limited. Its not all bad news though, as long as your device is unlocked and has previously run on the Sprint network you will be able to switch to a carrier operating on Sprint's network (Sprint MVNO). Older Sprint iPhone models 4, 4s and 5 are only compatible with Sprint's CDMA network.
iPhone models 5c, 5s, 6, 6+, 6s, 6s+, SE from Sprint were designed to support all major network bands and are compatible with all major network providers. This means iPhone model 5c, 5s, 6, 6+, 6s, 6s+, SE will work on any carrier. Simply make sure the devices have been paid in full and SIM unlocked.
Select your Sprint iPhone model and we'll show you all compatible carriers:
Verizon | Bring Your Own iPhone
Verizon runs on CDMA technology and is not compatible with GSM technology (T-Mobile & AT&T). Verizon's CDMA network isn’t compatible with Sprint's CDMA network. Typically these phones will only operate on their own network. However, as long as your device is unlocked and has previously run on the Verizon network, your iPhone model 4, 4s, and 5 will work on the Verizon network.
iPhone models 5c, 5s, 6, 6+, 6s, 6s+, SE from Verizon were designed to support all major network bands and are compatible with all major network providers. No matter GSM or CDMA, Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile, the iPhone model 5c, 5s, 6, 6+, 6s, 6s+, SE will work on any carrier. Just make sure the devices have been paid in full and properly unlocked.

Unlocking your phone is a piece of cake, here's what you'll need
Pay off any remaining balances or finance on the device. In order to switch, the phone must first be paid in full or your new carrier can’t accept the phone onto their network. If you have paid for your device in full, then it is ready to be unlocked and ready to switch. Carriers will ‘lock’ devices to their network until the device has been paid off in full.
Once paid in full you can then request an unlock code from your carrier.
Your carrier cannot refuse to give you the unlock code if there are no outstanding payments due. The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) enforces this unlocking law. The law states that any user who has paid their device in full and completed all formal procedures of their service agreement has the legal right to have their device unlocked by the original phone’s carrier.
Requesting an unlock code is easy and its free. As long as you've met the requirements, the carrier will give you the unlock code. When you sign up with a new service provider, simply enter the unlock code to activate your phone on your new carrier.
Want to keep your phone number, it's easy...and quick
Most important – do not cancel your service with your current carrier before contacting your new provider. You may not be able to port your number if it has already been deactivated. Once the number is deactivated your current carrier may delete or re-allocate that number - so again, don't cancel service until you have contacted your new carrier.
Once you have decided which carrier, plan and cell phone you want to go for, contact your new provider. They will ask for your name, address and customer account number as they appear on your bill. They may also ask for your account password if you have one. This information will allow the new carrier to properly port your cell phone number. Having this information handy can help speed up the process. Generally you can do all of this on-line as part of the activation process.
If you want to keep your device, you may also need to provide your phone’s ESN/IMEI number, which is usually located on the back of your phone or under the battery. This will let the carrier know that your phone is compatible with their service. It will also inform your new carrier that it has been properly unlocked by the phone’s original carrier.
Porting processes for transferring numbers are generally very quick, sometimes only a matter of minutes, it's really no problem these days to port your number.
Use our switching checklist and cover all your bases
Remember - after paying any remaining balance, request an unlock code from your carrier. The unlock code is a carrier’s security tactic to keep the phones on their network until they are paid back. Sprint is the only carrier that requires you to have your phone in service for at least 12 months on top of paying it in full to be able to switch.
Once you sign up with a new service provider, you will then enter the unlock code to activate your phone on the new service.
